Help. I have nortons antivirus software installed. It keeps opening a pop-up window telling me that it is deleting a specific virus, the problem is that it isn't deleting it. I have updated the virus definitions, but that doesn't help. The virus is MHTML.ReDir.Exploit. Nortons keeps telling me it is deleting Ap#.htm in the nortons/quarantine/incoming directory. I have found a file called tmp###.tmp that keeps showing up in my windows/temp directory which may be causing the problem. Unfortunately, every time I try to click on the file to remove it, it just disappears and comes back a short time later. I've read the material that nortons has to offer concerning this virus, but it and the antivirus software isn't helping getting rid of the virus. Any suggestions on how to remove this damm thing?

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately I've already downloaded the MS update and it hasn't helped.

To answer the various questions. I've downloaded the latest patch from microsoft. I've run the on-line version of PC-cillin, which says it can't find any virus. I've done a search on my system for the tmp***.tmp file (i.e, tmp2be.tmp, tmp5cd, tmp, etc) but its now not being found. I've set it up that I can see all my hidden files and directories, but nothing is coming up.

I continue to get continuous NAV pop-up windows telling me that its detecting the virus and removing it, only to have it return again. Sometimes its telling me its file ap5.htm, sometines its ap0.htm, etc. I don't think its a defect in the NAV software b/c my system is slowing down to a crawl and no matter how much material I erase from my system I keep getting warnings that I'm running out of HD space. So, I'm assuming the virus is real and replicating on my system.

I'm not the best at this stuff, but is there any windows command that is similar to the old basic language command "tron" so that I could figure out what programs are runing in sequential order to find out which one is creating the ap#.htm files that NAV is detecting?

I'm about to the point of formatting the whole damm HD and reloading everything, which I don't want to do. Sorry, if I'm sounding bad over this. Its just getting frustrating. I appreciate all the help that have you have been offering. Thanks.

If you're running XP or ME Disable System Restore and reboot, then scan again. Might just take care of the virus and the HD space issues. Re-enable SR again only after you're sure you're clean.

Unfortunately disabling the system restore and re-scanning didn't do the trick either. At this point I've went ahead and reformatted the HD and used my system recovery discs which seems to have done the trick. I appreciate all the help/input that everyone provided. Thanks
