Problems w/ cd dvd-rom drive

I found a similar complaint posted on here which reads: Hi!
I have got Toshiba Notebook Satellite A10 Pro with Windows XP Pro and Service Pack1. From Control Panel's Device Manager, it shows the drive as Toshiab DVD-ROM SD-R2412. It writes fine to CD-R media. When I try to wirte to CD-RW media through Drag&Drop CD+DVD software/program, it gives the following error message, "The RW Disc was not erased. Code:011-02-1043." From Windows Explorer, it does not offers any option to Format or Erase the drive/media. I shall greatly appreciate any help in solving this problem.

Well mine problems is very similar. It wont read, write or recognize the disk media. It just keeps prompting me to insert a blank disk. I tried errasing a cd-rw disk to resuse it but then it gives me an error code of 011-02-1043. Please can anyone help me? I am using XP on a Sony Laptop PCG-FRV37 and the drive is a Matshita UJ-810. AGGHHHNH This is so annoying and Sony only sends me usless emails that want me to download patches that have nothing to do w/ my issue.

 

I've got a similar problem in that my CD/DVD drive stopped recognising data discs, and seemed to think they were blank discs waiting to be written. (It's a non-writeable drive anyway).

Somewhere on the Web I found a post by someone who had the same problem, which he could solve by connecting his USB flash stick. It works for me - with the stick connected, the DVD/CD drive works, so does the external hard drive. Remove the stick, and neither work. I'm running Windows XP on a laptop.

Any comments?

Thanks for the info but that didnt work either. I installed Nero but that still hasnt helped. I am so frustrated I will probable never buy Sony products again.
