How do I get Chrome to do what it SAYS it will do if Chrome wasn't properly shut down and I'm offered the option to reload the sites I was on? I get the browser going, and there's a note asking if I want to renew the tabs. When I ask it to do so, all I get is one blank tab. It used to work well. How do I go about re-establishing the service? I could probably uninstall and reinstall, but is there a way to re-establish the restore of pages in settings or something?

'Nother problem. A long time ago, I had a problem with Firefox putting a large number of duplicates of "Firefox.exe" in the processes tab of Task Manager. I wrote for help and was able to confine it to just one or two processes, but forgot how it is done. I now have the problem again, with both Firefox and Chrome. Chrome is the worst. It often also puts a thousand or more junk files in its cache.

I don't know how to find the cache in my system. I'd like to look at the folder and follow what happens as I browse.

Both the gobs of junk files and the 12-15 instances of Chrome, exe in my processes slows my PC down to a slow crawl. Some applications are so slow that they launch already "Not responding."

    So I want help to:
Get Restore Pages to work again
Restrict the processes for my browser to one or two
Control the habit of overloading the browser Cache.
    I use W7.
    Thanks.

Browsers running multiple processes is absolutely the norm. I only have a couple of open tabs in Edge atm but it has 11 open processes, and it's still pretty slick. Most of your other issues, including cleaning caches, would be resolved by running CCleaner from time to time.

Thanks. Still, I was told a way to drastically reduce these multiple processes of Firefox. And it worked. I just forgot how. And I want a way to do likewise with Chrome. Do you know what that tweak is?
I have learned how to avoid thousands of things in Chrome cache: use incognito windows. I no longer have Chrome Cache with 1-2 THOUSAND items every day. Now, it's less than a hundred.
But I'd still like to know how I can get Chrome to make Restore Tabs really restore tabs. Is my only option to reinstall Chrome?
I tried CCleaner once and it erased all my videos. I probably did something I shouldn't, but something with those consequences should notify the user. I'm quite hesitant to ever use CCleaner again.

I now have two PCs. One goes online and predictably gets messed with. The other one is virginal where the web is concerned. And all my important data is on a memory stick with gobs of space. So being hacked right now is no big deal, and I try to study it. The worst that can happen is that I'd need to format C.

I have learned some important things by this study. I'd like a place where I can share some tips with other people.

I don't think there is anything that can be done to protect a PC that goes online. The bad guys are the real pros, and the first thing they attack is your security software. And they make it do THEIR work for them. I had a suspicion when I first went online that it couldn't ever be truly safe. Now, it's much more than suspicion. By now, the internet is the "id" of humanity. That is so, despite the multitude of good it can do. The SOBs far outnumber those who are not.
I think everybody should have a Plan A that they can use in case somebody shuts the whole web down one day - especially things that are vital, like the electric grid. One thing anyone can do is keep important data on paper, when possible.
