    Hello,

When I click on the add/remove program, the opening screen comes up, but then it takes several hours for the program to lists all the programs. I just went through the Malware program listed on this site and sent in my logs. Chaslang was very helpful but informed me that the problem that I am having with my add/remove program was not malware related, as all my logs are showing up as clean now. He stated that it might possibly be something that is listed in the start -up. I am not skilled enough to know what I should be looking for. I would appreciate any help in solving this problem. I am running a HP Pavilion 763N, 253 mhz intel Pentium processor, 512 mb sdram, 80 g hard-drive with 40 g free. I have downloaded a couple of programs in the last two months that could possibly be causing trouble, but I don't know which it could be. I tried to delete at least one, but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. The programs that I can remember downloading are Diskeeper Lite, Smart DeFrag, and a data recovery program, Paretologic. I would appreciate any help with getting to the cause of this problem. Thanks for your help! Diane

Somehow, I don't think this is an accurate reading on CPU speed. Also, you didn't mention which version of Windows you're running. In any case, does anything else take forever to open? Can you navigate through drive C: freely? First thing to try would be to click Start > Run and type msconfig and press Enter. Then click the Startup tab and select "Disable All" and click OK, and then restart the PC and see if that helps. You might also consider downloading the diagnostic from the hard drive maker's web site (it will NOT be HP). All the main drive companies have free diagnostics available for download at their web sites. These downloads generally will create a bootable floppy or .ISO image file to burn to a CD. Then you'd boot to the diagnostic and run the extended in-depth advanced tests to determine the overall health of the drive....
