Problems with browser

Hi,
I am running IE8 and recently have started having problems.
Initially at log on everything works well and then after just a short time [or sometimes a little longer] pages will start to load up more slowly and sometimes I will get the Windows cannot display this page or it will just hang up altogether.
Sometimes if I return to the search results page and try again I may get a fast load up of the previously failed page whilst on other occasions I get the same bad result.
I have tried cleaning with CCleaner and clearing the history etc via Windows but the only thing I have found that helps is a reboot but of course after a while it all happens again.
I have run multiple scans to eliminate malware and I can't find anything.
I can only liken it to a static build up which eventually seizes up the system.
Has anyone any ideas please?

A few specs on the machine wouldn't hurt.
How much RAM is installed?
Some browsers use more memory thasn others which can cause slowdowns,especially when loading a new page.
Check your Task Manager while surfing and see what amount of RAM is being used.

I know where you are coming from regarding spec but I reckoned as I hadn't got anymore stuff on my PC than when it was running OK the the spec probably wasn't the problem.
I am running a laptop with a 1.7 Ghz Pentium Celeron chip . I have just added a GB of ram [after the problem appeared] to what was initially half a GB of ram so I now have 1.5 GB ram. Not a lot I know but not so long ago it got along OK with just the half.

You did ensure that the new RAM was compatable?
Have you checked Task Manager yet?

Yes the Ram was chosen to be specific to my model and was guaranteed compatible. It was bought from Mr memory [UK]
My CPU usage varies between 10 and 40 % approx.
