Hi I have a Lenovo Ideapad 330 12 Gigs memeory

My dad passed away last Friday so I am staying at my aunt and uncles house and my lenovo Laptop is having weird issues with the WiFi. No one else in the house is having issues but me. The WiFi goes up and down or does not work and when I go to troubleshoot it, it gives me different problems it is having. Also when I go to reset the router then my computer works. I know there is no issue with the router because I am the only with the problem everyone else has no connection issues. I took three snap shots of the issues and downloaded them here. . I need to fix this problem because I am here for awhile. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks so much

First, I am so sorry for your loss. My dad passed many years ago, but I still miss him.

Many things can affect wifi connectivity. Distance between your computer and the WAP (wireless access point - typically integrated within a "wireless router") is a big factor. The number of barriers (walls, floors, ceilings) greatly affect connectivity. The constructions of those barriers (concrete block, wall board, wood or metal studs, etc.), and the contents of those barriers (metal pipes and wires) can affect it too.

The location of the WAP matters too. The best place is centrally located, and generally up high. It should not be near large metal objects like metal filing cabinets or refrigerators. Other nearby electronics like microwave ovens or even big screen TVs can affect the signal. If the WAP as external antennas, change their orientation. If internal antennas, some times just turning the WAP 90° may help.

Since you say the wifi goes up and down, I assume you have the correct passphrase and are able to connect sometimes, right?

If you temporarily move your computer into the same room as the WAP, do you still have problems?

If dual channel is supported, 2.4GHz offers the best range. 5GHz offers the best performance, but has a very limited range.

If you live in a crowded wifi neighborhood (big apartment complexes are the worst), you may have a crowded channel. I use XIRRUS WiFi Inspector to see what wireless channels are in use and available. NirSoft's WifiInfoView is another good one. Also popular is inSSIDer. If your wifi network is using the same channel as nearby networks, find a channel that is not used, or if all are used, the other networks have the weakest signal. The ideal channel is unused and none of the adjacent channels are used either.

To change the channel of your network, you need to access the WAPs admin menu. Then it is just a simple setting change - you may have hunt through the menu options to find it, but it will be there. No changes have to be made on any of the connected devices. At most, a simple reboot should reconnect everyone on the new channel and hopefully, get you on a stable channel too.

Be sure to let your uncle know what you are doing - just to keep all in the know, and that changing the channel does NOT affect security in any way.

If still no good, you might need to consider a new wifi adapter for your computer. Something like this or this one that lets you put your antenna up high might do the trick.

Good luck and sorry again for your loss.

    Keep us posted.

This is a new Lenovo Laptop and I am in range that is not the issue. Like I said the other laptops here work great it is just mine that is having issues. I do not know how to do any channel things. argh!!

Well, that does not tell us anything - they could be in totally different parts of the house. And again, you could be a short distance, but if there are 3 thick walls between you, then the range will be greatly impacted.

Here's a pretty good tutorial for finding a clear channel and changing the wifi channel.

It would help if you addressed the questions I asked.

Please ask me what question you would like to know. I am a short distance from the router. One wall between me and the router. Also when I get right next to the router it does the same thing as the pictures in the first poet.. It makes no difference if I am on top of the router or in another room, same problems. That is what I am trying to convey. I am the only one in the house with the issue. My cousins have laptops no problem. Sooooooo

Are your network drivers current? I know that this is a new laptop, but that doesn't mean much when it comes to BIOS/UEFI, drivers, etc. Have you run Lenovo System Update since you got the laptop? If not, do this and install all of the manufacturer's updates (I recommend using a network cable and plugging directly into the router, if possible).

The quickest way out (or at least test the theory that your internal WiFi card may be having issues) would be to buy an inexpensive USB WiFi device. Although I'm not generally a fan of TP-Link, this one I've found is decent for under $20. If you don't want to wait for Amazon to deliver, it's also available at most Office Depot/OfficeMax stores and possibly others.

Before connecting it, go to Control Panel > Device Manager and disable the current internal WiFi card. Once you plug the new one into USB, my experience has been Windows 10 will usually recognize it without having to do a driver download.

If it solves the problem, it'll be a fix. If not, you can return the WiFi stick for a refund. If the PC itself is still under warranty, it's a stop gap measure until you have time to contact Lenovo to get the internal WiFi replaced.

    Hope this helps.

Yes I have ran all the updates. It goes in and and out and says it keeps fixing the port or gateway. The craziest thing.

As for my wifi it works great everywhere else just the wifi at my uncles it does not like so I know the card is good it is just here the problem exists.

If the wifi works fine with all the other computers in the house, and if your notebook connects and works fine to other other wifi networks, then typically I would suspect some sort of interference with your notebook in your room at your uncle's house. But you said it has this problem when you move right next to the router too. So yeah, that is crazy.

Do you know how the wifi is setup there? The RE1000 error suggests there is a range extender on your uncle's network. I wonder if your notebook is getting confused about where to connect. The default username for the extender should be blank and "admin" is the password - unless your uncle changed it (and I would have). You might try entering that or asking him about that.

How are you able to connect to post here?

Hi yes it has been crazy! I got two more errors. I will post them below. I have a google chrome I have been writing on thank God for that extra computer.

Your second says the computer is manually set to connect to dennysguest_5GEXT and manually set to connect to Google Starbucks.

I would delete those networks and start over.

Okay well here is the deal. It is their router. I sent my laptop in to get the battery replaced and am using my google chrome and I have the same issue with the google chrome. My uncle had AT&T come out five months ago because of the same issue I am dealing with. They replaced the WiFi router and everything but it did not fix the issue. I have never been a fan of AT&T always had issues with their service. I think my uncle needs to go with a different carrier. Crazy they should have fixed the problem.

Perhaps but sadly, choices depend on the neighborhood where you live. And often, those choices are very limited.

That said, if all the other computers connect fine, its hard to blame the network.

Have you checked the settings in the router? On my router, I have MAC filtering on. Only my devices with the MAC addresses I have typed in can connect. You come into my home, and you will not be able to connect to my network unless/until I turn off MAC filtering, see the MAC of your device and add it to my list of allowable devices. Only then can you use my network.

I also have limited the number of IP addresses handed out. The router can hand out from 192.168.1. 2 through 192.168.1.256. I don't want all those addresses so I've limited it to the amount I need (computers, tablets, print server and cellphone). I think if there aren't enough addresses, the message that pops up would be "no working leases". At least that's what happened a while back when I'd go to a free hotspot and no one rebooted the router to clear all the devices no longer using the wifi. Routers have gotten better and they now clear out devices no longer connected.

    This worked for me.
Keep losing my Wifi configuration… SOLUTION

    Windows 10 Lenovo

Much to my surprise… the solution…

…found at the following site works to correct repeatedly losing my WIFI.

    https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...+and+need+to+use+"network+reset"&&FORM=VDVVXX

The bottom line is unchecking “allow to wake my computer” in the adapter properties. UNCHECK the box.

I sometimes write less than clear directions so please correct this as needed.
