Problems with DVD drive

Hey all,

I recently bought a new lite-on DVD+-RW drive from here
When I put a DVD in the drive some DVD's it reads fine and does exactly what it should. However other DVD's that I put in, do not work at all.

I can hear the DVD drive going, as though its trying to read the DVD,but after a couple of minutes it stops and fails to read the disk at all.

My Computer shows my DVD drive as being empty.

I know that this is not the media as it happens on a number of DVD's, all of which I have tried and found to work perfectly on my laptops DVD drive.

Exact model is Lite-on SHW-160P6S-05C

Anyone have any ideas?

 

Are these Dvd's you have burned or are they pressed dvd's with movies on them. THe reason why I ask is that this liteon drive is very picky with certain blank dvd media. I bought this one about two weeks ago and it quit reading all dvds blank and regular. I had to RMA the drive replacement works fine. What blank DVD"S are you using with it.

 

LiteOn make great CD burners, but their DVD burners leave a lot to be desired.

They are getting better though.


If you are sure it's not media, see if there's an official firmware upgrade available.

Only do this if you know what you are doing.

 

Hi, no its pressed media.

It works fine with blank media (I only ever use verbatim discs).

@ Isomniac I have looked round for firmware to try and fix the problem, i found some that I think is third party, installed it anyway but it didnt make any difference.

Worth sending back do you guys think?

If so any dvd burners recomended? I was thinking maybe toshiba?

 

If you have flashed it with third party firmware, you can forget about sending it back.

If it's burned DVD's it doesn't like, try another brand of media.

If that doesn't help, post back with exactly how you are burning them, and what sort of DVD it is, ie DVD-R/W or DVD+R/W etc.

 

The DVD drive worksfine with blank media, it is pressed media that it doesnt work with.

Well not all pressed media, but like half of the ones I have tried.
