Problems with Excel Documents

I need to view Excel documents to see my working schedule, and in the past the documents could be viewed in the free MS Excel Viewer ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-91DA-4110-8595-4A960D3E1C7C&displaylang=EN ) . However, the Excel spreadsheats I have been receiving recently are more complicated (using buttons) and whenever they are opened, the viewer crashes and I receive an error message. I am on an XP home Vaio, and I was wondering if I could somehow view these documents WITHOUT purchasing the $150+ Excel program. I am unable to determine which Excel version was used to create the documents. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

I use it a lot as an alternative to Office for those people who can't afford to buy MS, it's compatible
