    Hello,

I went away on vacation for a couple days. The computer was turned off, and the only

thing I did was to remove my external hard drive to take with me. When I returned, I

reconnected the external hard drive, turned on the computer, and that's the day I

started having problems (December 28th). While I was away, I used my external drive on

my laptop to watch shows, but did not download anything on to it. I also haven't

downloaded anything recently (prior to my trip or on the day of my return).

I recently updated to Windows 8, but that was almost a month ago. Basically, what

happens is that IE, Google Chrome, and/or Firefox will work just fine, but after a

little while (anywhere from 1 to 10 website visits), it will stop working and give me

the page cannot be found error. If I close all internet windows and run the CCleaner,

that usually fixes it, but I definitely don't like the idea of having to do that 2, 3, 4

times a day. Sometimes CCleaner isn't enough and I have to run Spybot and Ad-Aware to

clear things up so I can access the internet again. I'm not sure what happened or what's

going on with my system. I'm attaching files for TDSSKiller, HijackThis (MG Tools),

Rogue Killer, Malwarebytes, and HitmanPro. Please let me know if there's anything else I

    should run.

I did receive an error when I attempted to run the MG Tools/HijackThis. I'm not sure

what to do or what it means. I disabled my antivirun and firewall, ran again, and still

received the error. Here's what it says (I also attached a screenshot):
For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked

domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.

If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run, and

    type:

    notepad C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

and press Enter. Fine the line(s) HijackThis reports and delete them. Save the file as

    'hosts.' (with quotes), and reboot.

For Vista: simply exit HijackThis, right click on the HijackThis icon, choose 'Run as

    administrator'.

-As a side note, I couldn't even get through typing this before IE gave up and 'timed

out' on me, stating the page could not be displayed (even when I tried going to

    www.bing.com).

    Information on my system:
    Windows 8
    Installed memory (RAM): 3.00 GB
    32-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz

    Internet Explorer 10
    Version: 10.0.9200.16466
    Updated Versions: 10.0.1

    Mozilla Firefox
    17.0.1

    Google Chrome
    Version 23.0.1271.97m

    Thank you!

I'd call the service provider and have them check out your modem connections.

    Hi there,

Ok so I tried calling the service provider. They said there was some issue outside and they fixed it. That didn't help. I called again, they came and replaced the modem. That still didn't help, but it got a little better. My friend said my network card might be going back inside the CPU so I got a USB Ethernet Adapter. I plugged that in yesterday, and I'm still having trouble. The internet is much slower than it use to be, and, tonight, I couldn't even connect for about 45 minutes. I called the service provider, we tried troubleshooting (reset the modem & she checked that there's a connection between my PC and the modem), and she concluded there's a problem with my computer.

If you can offer any assistance, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have no clue why this is happening. Tonight, I restarted the computer. That didn't do it. I just ended up having to wait until it decided to give me back the internet.

Two things suggest a trip to the Malware Forum at:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Follow these instructions and post in that forum is your best bet.

    The Mbam log shows:
    Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit)\Unique Tools\Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade Keygen 1.0.exe

And the trouble modifying the Hosts file. Which may be related to the running of the keygen, but the Malware Jedis are the ones to see...

Thanks Cipher. I did run everything from the READ & RUN ME FIRST forum. 've rerun them today, though, so they are up to date. Should I be posting this thread somewhere else or am I in the right place?

When I ran MG Tools Hijack this, I got the follow error:
For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.

If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run, and type:

    notepad C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

and press Enter. Fine the line(s) HijackThis reports and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts.' (with quotes), and reboot.
For Vista: simply exit HijackThis, right click on the HijackThis icon, choose 'Run as administrator'.

I'm not sure which files I'd delete from there and don't want to mess anything up further. I did follow the instructions and typed in that line into the Command Prompt. I've attached the file I received from that.

Aside from sporadic trouble connecting to the internet, lately, sometimes, my computer reboots itself. When it comes back up, it just says that it ran into a problem and asks if I want to report the issue.

I've attached the other logs - hijackthis, the above error - hosts, RogueKiller, TDSSKiller, Malewarebytes, and Hitman Pro.

Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I could only load 5 attachments so here's the 6th - TDSSkiller report.

Yes, pardon me, I forgot to tell you, post it to the forum at
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35

The Malware Jedis can sometimes be busy, they will get to you tho.

Maybe a moderator could move this thread
