    Is this XP?

If it is do the following,

Start, Run and type in regedit then O.K.

Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

    Exit.

If you find after doing this that some burning programs don't work, just reinstall them.

Please post back with the result.

I get error while deleting the key in both cases.
    Safe mode?

    What was the error?

The only thing I can think of is the parent program is running in the background preventing you from deleting it.

It won't hurt doing it in Safe Mode.

Manually create a Restore Point first and do a backup of the Registry just to be safe.

    darn it
    The error is:
Error while deleting the key, and I am in safe mode now.

    What do you mean?

I don't have your computer in front of me, so you need to explain what is going on.

The instructions above are straightforward, so if you are having problems post back but be precise.

Only delete the keys I clearly outlined above.

I don't know what is going on but the above works.

The keys will come back, they are supposed to, however it should fix your original problem if you precisely follow the steps.

    Anyway, good luck.

    My last and final attempt.

If you are logged in as Administrator, it is very rare to be refused access when deleting a file.

Anyway, if this is one of those then right-click the parent folder and choose permissions and make sure you have authority.

    Anyway, good luck.

    Fixed.....
Last night after I messed around with registry I fixed the cd rom problem. However, my sound card was not working, in other words I had the same problem but this time with the sound card. Then I booted in safe mode and then went back to normal, by accident I guess NERO check was put into start up. As comp booted NERO poped up: "You upper and lower keys had bad data in them. Nero has fixed the problem but it will not take effect until the next resrart"

    I restarted it works....
So next time when someone asks.
Make sure you tell them to check nero or uninstall it because NERO blocks the upper and lower keys (this is just a guess I havent tried it yet)
then tell them to uninstall it.

    thanks for your help insomniac

    You're welcome, I'm glad it's sorted.

(As far as Nero, if you did it in Safe Mode it shouldn't be running, anyway it's fixed)
