I have a hp xe749. I took my puter to shop, had ram increased to 319 from 64, they put all new in so it would match, and something or other went from 100 to 133.
Ever since that xp will not install, upgrade or anything, keep getting blue screen and 1 of the things it says is about mismstched memory. I called and they tolkd me it was all the same.
I am frustrated. Also they told me the puter would be faster, that is just not so. it is not faster at all. I have searched internet cant find anything to help me.

hi angel; it seems that whoever did the upgrade put incompatible ram together and called it fixed, If you have PC100 ram and you install PC133 you might get conflicts. Just did a serach and you DO have PC100 ram installed; I would get a refund from where you got it and go online looking for PC100 ram for your own good.

Also post in the HARDWARE forums next time to get a speedy reply ;)

First thought the shop that did upgrades, take it back to them, or do they not guarrentee thier work.

Adding ram usually help speed up an pc, but you are also limitted by your cpu speed. (what cpu are ya running)

As Omegamerc posted pc100/pc133 could be conflicts between the two, if in fact you have both pc100 and pc133 ram sticks installed.
PC 133 ram is backwards compatible, but does not guarantee compatibility.
If you do have both sizes try to remove that original stick of pc100 64mb, and see if will run on the 256mb of pc133, if that works missing 64mb of ram wont make much differance.

Another thought you may be able to make changes in bios as to memory configuration and speed settings?

Are you getting errors? / what was message about mismatched memory, post exact error or messages.

Did alittle search tryed a few memory configurators, all came up with PC100 ram as the choice for your model!
(does not mean pc133 wont work)

I got old IBM PC, memory configurators come up with PC66 (pc already had pc100 installed and running at 100fsb, I upgraded to 256mg of pc133 which runs in pc at 100fsb)
