A friend of mine has outlook and recently lost her operating system, including Outlook .i have managed to get her historical e mails back but now have to set up her accounts.
She has 3 different accounts (ie e-mail addresses) feeding into one Inbox and then filters out of there into sub folders ,which i am going to leave up to her .The problem i have is when i set up a new account as the master account , how do i set up the sub accounts that feed into that inbox .When sending a mail she then uses a dropdown box and selects the e-mail account to use to send out.Hope this make sense .

This was originally set up years ago and the person who set it up has now left ,

Please help urgently as she is a proof reader and gets all her work vi e-mail ,

I am a experienced user but dont use outlook as my mail system so fumbling around really ,

    regards,

    Peter:-D

I have Outlook 2003 but I'm going to suggest she use Windows Live Mail. It makes setting up email easy in most cases; just enter the email address and password and it will search for, and usually find, all other data elements needed for the email account. When additional accounts are created, WLM adds a separate group of the standard folders (Inbox, Drafts, Sent items, Junk e-mail, and Deleted items) for each account. And, when sending a message, WLM, by default, uses the account from which the new message or reply was initiated. So, it seems to fit your friends email requirements quite well.

If it was only thats easy , she has loads of sub folders setup which is quite confusing and wants to keep using outlook as thats what she likes . I suggested using seperate accounts for each e-mail for clarity but she just wants the one account with all the other accounts feeding into it .looks like i am stuck with that solution ,

    regards,

    Peter

Outlook 2003, by default, puts all incoming mail in the same Inbox. So, just go ahead and create the email accounts in Outlook 2003. You'll need to visit the website of the email account provider and get details for incoming and outgoing server, port #'s, etc. If you can't find instructions for Outlook, look for instructions for Outlook Express; you should be able to apply that to Outlook.

This is going to take some searching to get the account setup info. There's no way around that. If email accounts had been backed up - email accounts can be exported - , they could simply be imported. Keep this in mind for future use.

    USAFVETERAN,

Many thanks for your help , have no problem setting up the accounts was just confused how she was getting it all into one inbox ,actually you have also just answered another thought i had for another friend who i did this before .I set up two accounts the 2nd one didnt appear but mail appeared in inbox so that explains that one .
Much prefer windows Live mail as i can set up seperate accounts and see whats coming in and out and use that for a small business as well .

As a last favour what e-mail program would you suggest (not outlook ) for a small business ,which has a few more features than livemail ie you can create sub folders for mail ie folder Cars then under that sub folders for escort/cortina etc etc (sorry all british old cars ) and also create rules for directing mail as outlook seems very over bloated and you have to have office as well ,

Thanks again for your help :-D:wave

Windows Live Mail will do all of that. Using your examples, to add a sub-folder under Cars, you can right click on Car and click New Folder. To create message rules, click on Actions, on the Menu bar, and select "Create rule from message" or go to Tools | Message Rules.

BTW, have you noticed the Thanks button in this forum? ;)
