Problems with Registrybooster and Driverscanner from Uniblue

I got a failure to initialize properly app error for sndvol32.exe so I googled for an answer and got a link to driverscanner from Uniblue which said it was recommended by major geeks, cnet and other sites. I paid for and downloaded the software and it updated my realtek 97 driver. Then I got an app error for alcxmnter.exe after rebooting my computer. So I then googled for an answer to this problem and it sent me to a link to get registrybooster from Uniblue which was also reviewed well so I paid for and downloaded it. It did not fix the problem.
I e-mailed tech support at Uniblue and neither of the computer problems are fixed because I have received conflicting advice from two different support people so I haven't done what they said.
I was also overcharged for the software because they had an advertised special for powersuite which included both programs plus others but I didn't get linked to it even though both softwares have a link button to powersuite in them.
I e-mailed them about all the issues including the cost and to let them know I am getting conflicting advice from them and I still haven't received a response. Hope all this is clear to understand.
Has anyone else had trouble with this company and does anyone know how to fix the app errors I'm getting? alcxmntr.exe and sndvol32.exe fail to initialize properly.

 

Thank you. Your advise is sound. I will try your suggestion for resolving the issues in the software forum and thanks again on the info for pursuing a refund. I've never used a forum before so this should be educational. Too bad I had to find out the hard way.

Software Refunds

I'm happy to report that I have received refunds for all software involved. Thanks for your help and advice on this issue. I will do another post later with my system info to get help resolving the issues with my computer.

Here is the info you asked for. Not sure if this is enough.
operating system is Windows XP with service pack 3
audio driver is RealTek '97
have 2 Logitech Desktop Speakers
have HP vs17 flat panel monitor.
The first problem that came up was the sndvol32.exe error when I try to use the tray icon for the volume control. It happened after I tried downloading and installing new codecs for audio & video files. I downloaded the K-Lite Full codec pack which included Media Classic Player. It was after that when I got the sound app error. I also downloaded a program for Windows XP a video codec checkup utility from Microsoft which said the ffdshow file was not the best choice for XP. I also realized that the software was over my head so I uninstalled it. I tried installing the standard version of K-Lite and fixed the ffdshow file problem but could never get Media Classic Player to run again so I uninstalled it thinking I would clean up the error first and then reinstall the basic version without Media Classic Player. I googled for an answer to the sound error which sent me to the link for driverscanner. After downloading and running the program it said I needed an updated driver for RealTek so I let it. After that I got the alcxmntr.exe error. After googling for an answer to that error I was linked to registrybooster which did nothing to fix either of the errors. So bottom line is that I need to get rid of the sndvol32.exe and alcxmntr.exe errors and if possible download a safe codec pack for video and audio files.

You may just have a corrupt SndVol32.exe - I've attached a copy, which you may extract to your C:\Windows\System32 directory...try that, and let us know if that changes anything...

And to follow up on the alcxmntr.exe, there seem to be a couple of schools of thought about that one...it's obviously a RealTek file, but several of the sites I've explored say it's a semi-spyware thing, whereas others claim it's harmless - yet Bleeping Computer.com says it's a bad guy: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/Alcxmntr.exe-245.html ...

Try this - do a search on your machine, see how many instances of alcxmntr.exe show up, and we'll try to decipher this thing...

 

Re: Sndvol32.exe app error

This is nuts. I downloaded the zip file, unzipped it and replaced the file in the windows/system32 folder and when I click on the system tray icon I still get the error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application". I tried downloading the Realtek '97 drivers from their website and still get it.

I've figured out the problem with alcxmntr.exe and it's more complicated to explain so I'll do so in a different post later.
