This is a question regarding someone else's computer that I am trying to help them fix. They are having problems with booting the PC, then it asks if you want to boot to Safe Mode and then wants to do a scandisk. I booted into normal mode, and it says my display settings are wrong, and defaulted to 16 colors. I changed it to 256 colors, tried to reboot, and it locked up while shutting down. I then installed the win98 shutdown patch, changed the color to 256 again, and rebooted and it seemed fine. It did not do a scandisk and it did come up in 256 colors, which I later changed to 16-bit. I restarted the PC 3 times, and shut it down totally a couple times, and it seemed to work fine. I get a call later on saying that when she got to her computer, it was already in safe mode, (even though I left it in normal mode with the right display setting), and she rebooted and it still does the same thing with the scandisk, safe mode, and display setting. Please help!! I don't know the exact specs on her PC other than it is a P-II 400 with 256MB RAM and a Win 98 OS. Integrated video, sound. SMC 1211TX LAN. Thanks!

Hello, thanks for your reply. I won't get a chance to mess with the PC until tomorrow morning, but I will try to run that tool to get the mobo specs. I do have a Geforce2 to try out to see if that is a solution as well.
