or perhaps my computer is overheating...I have a toshiba which is known for that i guess, anyways I lifted the notebook off the desk to let the fans run (i read to do this on here somewhere) and it seems to be a lot better, however no matter what when I run spybot, my computer shuts down. Even if i don't raise the laptop, it will stay on for 30 mins to 1 hour before shutting off but no matter when I run spybot, it shuts down. Ad-aware works fine at all times.

    any suggestions/comments? thanks, great website.

Nice to see you posting pinkerton, One there are after market fans that can attach to your Toshiba to reduce the overheating problem. Two, I would suggest "Uninstalling SpyBot" and then reinstalling it, this might just solve your problem, use something like CCleaner available here at MG to remove all of the "Old" Spybot. Hope that helps pinkerton

    thanks BCGray

after market fans? where can i get one?

also I did uninstall spybot and try agian, and the damn thing makes my computer shut down. sucks

i read the read me first thing and i have all the stuff, CCleaner, ad aware, spybot, turned off windows firewall and downloaded sygate, got rid of crappy macafee (took 10 mins for my computer to start up b/c of that stupid thing) and downloaded avast anti virus, everything and it's helped a lot, but stupid overheating and this spybot thing is weird.

what could the problem be regarding spybot? virus?

Spybot isn't that resource-intensive, so I cannot see it causing an overheating issue.

It could be malware related - you read the read and run me first thread, but have you actually followed the directions?

Do you use the teatimer function in Spybot? Its known to be problematic.

If you have cleaned all malware off your system, and do not use the teatimer function, then it sounds like a simple application failure/corruption. This should be corrected with an un/re-install, however, if you are experiecing difficulties with even that, you might try removing it with Your Uninstaller! 2006. This has been known to succeed where Add/Remove Programs have failed.

Great advise Mada I totally forgot about Teatimer, and its problems........Re Laptop after market cooling fans, I would suggest Newegg as a starting point, a few here at MG say there fans are great.:) Hope that helps

Great advice BCGray! ;) I was going to recommend newegg myself, but I forgot that part of the question! Honestly though, I think price should be the main determining factor. IMO, case fans are case fans. I've spent relatively good coin on the "quietest" fans, and I've not been impressed.

okay so avast also makes the computer shut down when i run it

how do yo get rid of malware if the anti-virus doesn't work?

Sounds like you need to post the above in the Malware Forum, as it is usual for Malware to cause problems when you use any antivirus. PLEASE MAKE CERTAIN YOU FOLLOW ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS LISTED FIRST BEFORE POSTING THERE AS THOSE PEOPLE IN MALWARE ARE BUSY ENOUGH WITHOUT EXPLAINING BASIC PROCEDURES Hope you get the issue resolved:)
