    Ok, here's the deal:

I tried to do a recovery of drive C on my Sony desktop using the recovery wizard in windows. When the computer restarted, it checked the system hardware configuration, and said "the inf file txtsetup.sif is missing or corrupted, cannot continue setup, press any key to continue". It keeps going back to that screen. So, I ordered the recovery disks from sony, thinking I could do a recovery from there. Well, when I try to recover drive C, it says "destination partition too small". Then I created setup boot disks for windows from microsoft, and went to the recovery console, where I looked at my partitions. Not only do I have a drive C and D, but now I have a new drive E, which wasn't there before. Drive C is ~ 5 Gigs (~1G free), D is ~ 95G(~30 G free), and E is ~14 Gigs (~4 Gigs free). My question is: Can I delete drive E, and somehow put all of that free space on C, then do the recovery using the cds I have? I want to keep D because that has all of the files that I want to keep. Thanks...any help is much appreciated!

My suggestion? Put the XP disk in and boot, when it gets to where it asks what partitions, delete them ALL, then create one. Insert your recovery CD and reboot. ONE catch. Sont might have important system info on a partition, so if one is called Sony or anything similar dont delete it. Of course, ti might be repairable anyhow and worst case you can install Windows manually, then use the provided drivers and software cd's and install one at a time.

you might try just reformatting C .. as windows XP wants at least 1.5GB free space and C doesn't have that much

you would need a third party partition utility like partition magic to combine C & E ... but if what MA said is correct I wouldn't do anything to the E drive
