This is driving me nuts. I just rebuilt a new computer with a Asus P6T, intel i7, and new DDR3 memory. I am still using my ATA drives and one IDE. There is only one connection on the new ASUS board for IDE drives.

The computer worked fine and no apparent problems. I know I loaded several programs via the DVD/CD drive but one day when I wen to go and burn, it would not work. It just failed and failed and failed. So I figured it was not compatable with Vista so I went and purchased a new HP DVD drive, brought it home and same thing. Brought it back and got a Pioneer DVD drive and I got ti to work as long as my other IDE hard drive was not connected in series with it. I left the IDE drive in there just in case I need to get some information off of it that I forgot to transfer to the new ATA drives. So I have been running the computer without the IDE drive hooked up and just the DVD drive. So i needed some more info from the old IDE drive so I hooked it back up in series wit the DVD IDE cable. Everything is a OK. So I thought, I never tested the DVD with the IDE drive hooked up at the same time I just assumed it was working now since I was not gettign any errors. Now that it is I can not get it to read a DVD. If I put in a DVD it just spins up, no auto play no nothing. I bring up Explore and click on the dvd drive and the GREEN progression bar at the top starts up and just keeps on going and going. I can not do anything on the computer while this is going on and it never stops. Well, as Long as I have let it run is about 5 minutes. I know it doe snot take 5 minutes to get a directory listing of a disc.

So i have uninstalled it, shut down the computer and disconnected both IDE drives, booted it back up, shut it down, recounted just the DVD drive, booted it back up and now I can not get the drive to DO anything. It just gives me that dam green progression bar up in the Explore address bar.

Device Manager says the device is installed and working properly. I beg to differ.

What can I do, this is crazy.

    Thanks,
    Houston.

With that many drives acting up I would try a new cable for starters and make sure jumpers are set for cs if they are and problem still persists try pinning them as master and slave.
