Hello all I am new on here and I have a question.

During the boot of windows vista i have a error come up as noted below.

    File:\boot\bcd

    Status: 0xc000000f

Info: An error occured while attempting to read the boot config data.

Ok, I know that the boot.ini file is corrupt. All I want to do is format the drive. However, I can't use my windows xp cd to delete the partition. I don't have the vista CD as I am doing this as a favor for a friend. And for some reason he don't have the CD. Is there anyone who can assist???

What exactly are you trying to do?

    1 - install windows
    2 - format harddisk
    3 - repair windows

Just boot up xp setup disk, and delete the partitions.

If you want, google ultimate boot cd that has partitioning tools. Or go to your harddisk manufacturer's site for free tools.

Either look up your manual or search the web for the pdf manual. Power off, unplug power cord, clear cmos (short 2 pins labelled CLR by the battery), plug power cord in, power on, go to bios, load defaults, save & exit, go to bios, check that your harddisk is detected in the 1st tab called info/cmos/etc.

Pitfall of trying to get XP on a laptop which is designed for Vista is that.........

Also very likely that the HD in that Laptop is a SATA so SATA drivers are needed to be loaded at the install procedure ( F6 when the screen flashes that prompt, must be quick as it disapears quickly ) for the HD to be recognised, sadly but here comes catch 22.... you'd need to find XP ACHI drivers for XP and have floppy to install them as XP doesnt unlike Vista allow SATA drivers to be installed from USB or CD.

But following on from akhilles is that have a look inthe Bios for an option to change ACHI to IDE ( not perfect but may allow XP to load ).
