problems with windows xp laptop

I was asked to look at my grandpa's laptop it is running windows xp pro i believe.

The initial problem was that it is not connecting to wifi even though it detects it. Upon looking at the settings I found the Windows Management Instrumentation was reading as erroneous, and it suggested using a restore to fix it. I ran a check disk and found no errors. I just rememberd about the sfc command which I will try later when I find a xp disk, as I know in windows xp the disk is required to run the command. Are there any other suggestios that can be suggested?

So far I am planning to do the following:
run sfc
and delete the wifi profile and remake it.

I have established that the problem is:
The system can detect wifi but not connect to it.
the Windows Management Instrumentation(wmi) appears broken

The system is a windows xp desktop using a wireless usb adapter. I believe it is running xp pro but I am not totally sure and I believe it is for the most part up to date.

 

What do you get when you open a Command Window and type
systeminfo | findstr /C:"OS"

 

You can try going to Run, type in , webfldrs.msi, click reinstall, and check what you need,.

 

I will have to try both of these later tonight as I am very tired and won't have access to the system till later tonight
