Problems with yahoo messenger

hi all. i think i may have posted something similar a while ago, but for the life of me i can't remember. if this is a double, oops im sorry.

anyhow, i installed yahoo messenger on my pc. i have windows 2k. the problem is that i cannot see the text of any incoming messages. apparently people can see my replies, so it cannot be the fault of the program.

i have anti virus guard and zone alarm and i regularly clean my pc out, so unless it is some sneaky deep seated malware, i don't think any spyware or virus is causing the problem-but then again im not an expert.

i think that somehow the default settings on my pc which allows java scripting (if that is the correct type, for messaging services) has been disabled or something.
if not, i think the problem is caused my some kind of wrong setting on my computer.

if anyone can help i would be very grateful. thank you.

On the toolbar

Messenger -> Preferences

Yahoo! Messenger Preferences will open

Select Appearance in Category box

When other people customize their fonts and colors:

place a check mark in Always use my fonts and colors.

OK

If that didn't work. I'm not sure about any other fixes. I rarely use Yahoo! Messenger.

 

I would uninstall, and download the messenger again, and see what happens.

 

ok i think i have an idea of how to solve the problem but it leads onto another:

apparently the solution consists of me going to internet options and clicking on the security tab and then clicking on the custom button.

the problem is that when selecting the internet icon, the custom button can't be selected. it's not even highlighted. whats up with that??

What color font are you using? If you highlight the area where you type, does anything show up? I thought a friend was using invisible ink, come to find out they had the font color and background color set the same .
Did you try to uninstall and reinstall yet?
Also when you followed shadow_puter_dudes suggestion to set your preferences, did you click on "apply" at the bottom?
I didn't understand what you meant in the last post about your internet options in regard to Ymessanger.
