In the last two days I found I am having problems within "Display Properties"
Certainly I have not tried to access/use the Display Properties for about a couple of weeks.

When you Right Click on Desktop and from within the dropdown Menu click on "Properties" the "Display Properties" box does not appear, yes tries for a couple of seconds, yet no appearance of same?

If you go to "Control Panel" = "Classic View" you can access "Change Screen Resolution" and "Choose a Screen Saver" I find I cannot access the "Change the Desktop Background" and Change Computer's Theme"

Odd, Yes I found you can access and use all of the above OK in "Safe Mode"
I am using Windows XP Home OEM with all Updates installed
MSI Graphics GeForce 6600 Card with MSI 8.4.1.9 programming installed

Please Note! Back about 10 days ago I updated computer with =
    Internet Explorer 7
    Wireless Laser Mouse 5000

Could it be possible I have a program I have installed of which is creating the problem. So if so, which one could it be ?
Or otherwise could the problem relate to the recently installed Internet Explorer 7 or with the New mouse I have installed?

Try using Dial-A-Fix; a free download from Major Geeks. It has an option to fix the control panel applets and that should fix the problem. Be sure to do a full virus/spyware/malware scan and removal also. I have seen viruses that will disable display properties access....

    Thanks for your replies!
    Yes, found the problem??
As I mentioned "Thought was related to A program I that I had six months ago installed???"
After doing the below all now is OK!!

    Yes I took a wild guess;
    [1]
    Uninstalled MSI Nvidia driver/program,
    [2]
manually deleteted the Nviida program folder in C/Drive,
    [3]
In Safe Mode used the Pro Cleaner to clean out the Nvidia data files.
    [4]
In Normal Windows Mode I did a fresh install of the MSI Nvidia program

Hello, I was reading the thread about the Display problems. The laptop i'm using is my jobs. I was in the process of copying a picture that I needed to build an ad when this "Pest Trap" appeared on my lower right toolbar. If said something about trying them for anti-spyware. even though I didn't click on it the program still attached itself. so I went to control panel and deleted from my program list. The Icon is still at the the bottom toolbar that keeps popping up and it has managed to lock my desktop properties. ( I can't change my background). I downloaded "Highjack this" and I have a log. but being there is programs I need to perform my job I don't want to delete anything that might jeopardise any programs. What do I do?.... Auburn Beauty;)
