Is there a way that I can set up my task manager so that whenever I startup a certain program is automatically goes for affinity to CPU 1 instead of both CPU 0 and CPU 1 as I have dual-core. And to set certain programs when they are run to start and a certain priority?

Yes right click the applications process in Task Manager > Processes, then choose either Set Priority for CPU usage, but I would be inclinded to leave this as Normal, then you can set Affinity to either CPU 0 or CPU 1 by unticking the box.

I think it was Adrynalyne who advised that the solution offered will not stick.
It may have to be set each time you boot up. :cry :( :p Bazza

Well yes, I want it to be setup forever till I change it, I don't want to have to keep setting it up every time. And it resets every time the application exits out, not during the re-boot :[.

That's even worse news.:p :cry :( Thanks for that info. :)

Just another reason not to stuff around with Duo Cores of various makes, models and speeds, until multi-threaded software is released, IMO of course. :D Bazza

    Defeatists!

Well I was going to go through Windows System Resource Manager and its setting but well just didnt find time or get a copy I had to work in Vista so really not in mood to read up on it and dont think it would be easy option to run.

But well there are always options http://www.koma-code.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=88&Itemid=93 this one is not perfect but does do what it says, if your running Vista tho it will need Admin Priviledges to run, and doesnt list all processes, unless you run them as in say CCleaner, then you can asign an affinity ( but not, Priority )

May work better in XP, that Vista tho.

Just went to install CPU-Control and Pest Patrol has flagged it as a pest (aSpy v2.12).:cry :( :p

I am assuming this is another Pest Patrol false positive, and am going ahead with the installation.

    Wish me luck,:) Bazza

I have installed CPU-Control and am impressed with it, so far.
It certainly appears to work better than XP / Intel / Toshiba standard method.

Just printed out a document and CPU usage on CPU#1 went to around 22%, while CPU #2 remained at 2-3% (guessed).

Windows Task manager (in XP), using Ctrl-Alt-Del, shows the different CPU usage.
I have it set to Automatic.
    Thanks again, Halo.:major

Glad you like it Bazza, just doesnt cover all of Shotguns criteria sadly, it missed Priority.

I think good thing that this app has is that you can set profiles up for various senarios that you may have like gamer, business, distributed computing etc,

But we all have different uses from a PC, and while I have tried this app before suggesting it for a day or so, i have no need for it as it seems Vista does a good job of scaling the CPU usage, but no doubt their will be a badly programmed app that will hog 100% CPU on both cores and cause others to hang, thus your PC and this type of app will be kinda useful in those cases.

Still happy with it, a day later after installation. :D Bazza
