Please help I am trying to find my Processor Speed clock in my bios.
I went into Bios and no luck. I have checked CPU area and Chip Set area. No luck I am missing something here.

Right click My Computer and select Properties : the chip, speed and RAM are listed.

How can I change it. I can't find it in Bios. A friend has told me to try to multiply the two numbers and place the total in bios. I have looked and looked and it is not there in my bios. I have Gateway GT4016 there is advanced chipset but not a place to do the change or anything. I am lost.

Going like that can easily fry your machine. It has to be done SLOWLY and run for a while after every change to ensure stability.
Your friend is going to trash your system with that advice.

I didn't realize that thank you so much. I am still getting shut downs for no reason on my PC. I have relaced fans and my power supply. The pc is really clean. So I have no idea why this is happening. It does not happen all the time but it does. Then it is hard to turn back on. Temperatures are normal I use speed fan to watch them. Then I am having problems with my monitor too going into colored horizontal lines. I can't believe this is happening. I spent a lot of money on my Gateway it is only three years old.

Sounds like you already tried your friends "advice".
Try going into BIOS again and turn it back down. NOW.

I'm 58 years old,and I found out long ago that when somebody says they haven't done something, then says "honest", 9 out of 10 times, they have.
I'm not here to judge or condemn, but to help if I can.So, if you have and you value your Dell, turn things back as they were at first.

I am 54 years old here. I don't have a Dell I have a Gateway. I had had problems big time. It is three years old computer. All I have done is replace the power supply and the fans. I don't know why my monitor is bad and also the computer just shuts down when it wants to. I am just trying to figure out how to fix it. I have not changed anything in Bios futhermore I can't even find where to change it there. So that is a good thing from your advice before. I think my PC is going to crash I guess I will have to get a new one. I did contact Gateway and told them about this issue. They told me they don't stand behind the computer or monitor due to I have no service agreement with them. I told them I spent 1,000 dollars on my pc including the lcd monitor. I lost my job three years ago I was a teacher. I purchased this computer in hopes it would last along time. That is why I spent good money and I thought Gateway's were a good computer. I am so sad about my monitor and computer. So if you can help I would appreciate it. Now I am working two jobs just to make ends meet. I am not alone we all are having a hard time in this economy. I just would hope that it can be fixed. It is hard to buy new computers now days. Thanks so much I hope you can help.:cry

There is a program that I run called ThrottleWatch that I got from here

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/ThrottleWatch_d4431.html

It watches your processor and you can see when it gets hot enough to throttle down to prevent damaging the CPU.
Definitely like getting hot. Found out that SpeedFan is not very accurate.

Most of the time when a computer shuts down, it is related to heat.
You said you replaced the fans. Perhaps one of them isn't working properly - it happens. Take the sid of the computer off and run it that way. See if you notice a lessening of sound right before it shuts off. That might be an indicator that a fan quit.
