Since I have to put up with my laptop for longer I was thinking about a processor upgrade. Would changing from a P4 3.4ghz 1mb cache w/ HT to a 3.8 with 2mb cache and ht improve it much?

I don't think you'd really notice any change in performance. I can't imagine that you're having performance problems with it now. If you are, it's not due to the CPU, and probably not hardware related at all. Most performance problems on newer PC's are usually due to software problems (note the key words here: "most" and "usually").

I am with hd200 on the CPU. You might want to add some RAM (not sure what you are running.) Also, on my laptop I noticed a boost in speed when I upgraded to a 5400RPM hard drive. Note: higher RPM drive will most likely decrease battery time, but give you a little speed if you have a slower drive. Also, keep in mind what hd200 said about the OS setup and speed.

FredG is onto something... most new laptops are sold with slow drives (4200rpm is normal, 5400rpm if you're lucky). Upgrading to a 7200rpm drive is highly recommended. I have personally seen up to a 40% increase in speed by simply installing a 7200rpm drive. They cost more, but (IMO) are TOTALLY worth it!

5400 is pretty acceptable for me, and a little easier on the wallet. 7200RPM I would love to get one for my hooptie laptop. :drool

I could tell a big difference from the old 4200 drive and the 5400RPM drive.

It has 7200rpm drive and 3gb (2.75 due to mobo)RAM. What I really need is a Graphics card upgrade, but they are rare as rocking horse shit to find. I'm currently running a 6800go, and believe it will run a 7800/7900/7950. Maybe someone could confirm it is a Clevo D900t chassis. I thought maybe a proccessor would help but I wasn't sure on how much difference switching from a 1mb cache to 2mb cache. I might as well just wait till and can build a whole new one with sli 9series cards:D
