Profile name

On our new laptop with Vista, I have changed the one and only profile name from hhgregg (set up by the store that had the floor model we bought) to our daughter's name. The profile name hhgregg still appears in Users (C:Users), and cannot be edited. Hannah's name appears on the User Accounts list, but when we explore the C drive, or look at User Profiles to configure properties, it still reads hhgregg. How do we edit this throughout?

Also, we do not have the Search function on the Start menu to search for files and folders. Thanks.

 

you might just want to create a new user profile, and delete the other, if you don't want it anymore.

Yeah. I do believe the only proper way to really change that would be to make a new account, and drag all the settings over accordingly, or you could change the name of the folder, but then I don't think that would work.

Safest means, would be to create a new account. Copy all files/folder, from that user directory over to the other new folder created, and that should fix the issue. (Note, make sure your hidden files/folders are enabled.)

Ok, thanks all. I have created a new profile, and deleted the original hhgregg from Start/ Control Panel/User Accounts. The account still shows up in c:User accounts in the computer or Windows Explorer equivalent. When I try to delete it from there to erase all traces of it, the error says "in use with another program, cannot delete. Is there a way to overcome that?

 

Working on this more, the new profile named Hannah appears to be a sub name of the original hhgregg name, when I look in properties. Its as if the computer has a name hhgregg that will not go away even thought the profile has been deleted. When I click on restart with Hannah logged off, the error says others are logged on, but they are not. its like this profile is still in there although it is not listed in users. Any help appreciated.
