Ok here's the question---In hardware profiles there is a section that gives you the option of selecting the amount of time it takes to find a profile. It is currently set for 30 secs which I assume is default for XP---now---if I change this to say like 5 sec would this help speed up anything. I almost posted this in the hardware section but I figured the question needed to be posted here---hope I was right ?? Oh suppose I should mention that there is no other profiles--I'm the only user.

No. Hardware profiles are for things like docking stations, where depending on how your machine is conencted, which hardware will be detected and used. It will not change anything in a user profile.
