"Program Access/Defaults" &/or Configuration Help

Every time I attempt to set the "Program Access & Defaults", it automatically and immediately reverts back to whatever it seems to want (in XP Home w/SP3).

I'd like to fix that ... yet again (or have I been "HiJacked"?!? - in spite of all my so-called "security"!?!) - and would also like to either configure Outlook Express to actually WORK for me, OR have my Yahoo! email account appear when I click on an "Email This" or "Email to a Friend" link on a webpage.

Any takers on helping me arrange this?

You may be BRILLIANT!!! After reading your question, and thinking a minute (or four), I realized that I just recently RE-installed "WinPatrol" (as I "think" [??}] that it's a good program to have around?) - and it has a Lock Host Files" setting ... could that be it? While I hopefully await an response, I'll go in and check it out ...

*UPDATED* - Well, that was quick. I realized as soon as I went for it that it got blown-out on a System Restore that I did earlier today (to TRY to correct some things - which seems to have worked - for "some" things).

This machine (the one in question), with XP Home Edition, currently utilizes:

Avast (free) AV
SpywareBlaster (Javacool Software)
Ad-Aware (Lavasoft)
Spybot S&D (Safer Networking??)
Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal (IObit)
Windows Defender (MS)
Zone Alarm FW (Zone Labs)
Firefox Browser (Mozilla) ... I think that's about it. Oh, recently installed Assassin SE 5.0, but still figuring-out how to work it.
Oh, i have PocketKillBox, but never really used it (with success), oh, and recently added CW Shredder from Trend Micro (I think that's who offers it?)

I can change them - but they do not stick.

Another weird thing is: I can not use the Bold/Italic/Underline features here at MG's (nor change text color or use any of the other features, I don't believe [?])
