I need to find out 3 things. 1 if i clean a laptop with multiple users will it remove malware, spamware and viruses from all user. 2 if i load a program is it limited to the user or can all users share and if music is downloaded can all user use it . 3 how can i create a "back door' so i can monitor where my 14 year old daughter has gone on the inter net. I want to keep an eye out for where she has gone on the internet, what music she has downloaded ect.

    1. Yes, if you have just one admin account, (Strongly recommended), and the others have only limited privileges.

    2. You can set up file sharing, this varies according to your operating system. In Win 7, you just right click on the file, (or it's short-cut), select properties then security then advanced, then effective permissions. There are several ways to set up file sharing but this works good for single files or programs.

    3. Setup your daughter with user account, assign a password to her account. She won't be able to change it and there will be a history of her browsing in the Internet tools tab.

Most likely it will. I usually login as an administrator, or with an admin account and run those types of scans.

Well, on programs typically on standard windows accounts, yes all of them should be able to run the program without issues. As for the music download, typically it is only going to be saved under the windows profile, i.e. username, of the person who was logged in at the time and downloaded and saved.

You can share it with others by allowing people to access your profile through NTFS permissions, or, just copy and paste the music file from your My Music folder to theirs under their windows profile. Those are located in C:\users\username or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username

Well, you can easily login with her account and check it out for yourself. Typically, you are going to have an admin account, so I would 1. Not allow her to have a password for her username because kids don't need privacy like that yet, so that you can 2. Easily login and see where she is going.

Now, if she's smart enough to delete her browsing history, you can purchase software out there to install that takes logs of all of that stuff.

    Just a few suggestions! :major

    Hi,
There are lots of software available to monitor a childs activity whilst on the internet.... I found this one for you
..... http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Network_and_Internet/Misc__Networking_Tools/Sentry_Lite.html ..... it is free and will log all instances of internet content that has been used/ viewed by the child.

Though bearing in mind the only true safe way of controlling what contenet the child is accessing is by making sure that the computer is always in an area of the home where it can be supervised i.e living/dining room and kitchen!! be pro-active with the child and show interest in what they doing, advise on how to stay safe whilst using chat rooms and the like, no matter what software you install most kids now are that computer savvy they will find a way of getting around it.

    I hope this helped.

You can also put the music you want shared in the Public folder so you don't end up with a bunch of duplicated files and if you have music you might not consider appropriate for children.
