I'm planning on swapping my WD640GB boot drive for a Crucial 128GB SATA III SSD.
(my system is Win 7 with SATA 6.0 controllers)
What is a good (free) program for copying my WD boot partition to the SSD?

There are several, but I'm told that WD has something on their web site that you can download. Here's a good place to start:

I don't use their drives, so I'm not sure about that.
But with a Seagate drive (for instance) you can download their "Sea Tools" package which contains "Acronis True Image" which can do a drive Clone for you with no problems.
A "CLONE" is exactly what you need to do. That makes the new drive a mirror image of the old one. Nothing is lost in the process.

That link above should get you headed in the right direction.;)

    Best of luck!

Be careful. It doesn't say it's compatible with Vista or Win-7.
Ghost 2003 works fine for XP but not for the newer OS's because MS has changed something in the NTFS structure that confuses the older backup programs.

    Good Luck,
