Hello. I am using XP home and I just hot a 250 GB external hard drive.
I would like to take my very old 7 GB Compaq Presario with Windows 98 and transfer some old songs and images to it.

It would be great if I could transfer the whole contents of my old computer and use some of the old programs (Some games, a jukebox, etc.)

Is this possible? I thought I recently was a freeware program here that claimed to be able to do this.

PS - There may be some malware on the old computer but nothing my current tools couldn't handle.

    Thanks in advance!

Easiest way I would have thought is to set the old drive up as a slave drive and add it into your current system. XP will then see it as just another drive.

I never quite understood the whole 'Master / Slave' concept. I have three external drives and feel very comfortable using them. They take up less space too.
Any suggestions as to how I could accomplish what I originally proposed?

You'd have to hook up the 7gb drive either as a slave to the 250gb hard drive, or as a master on IDE2, temporarily disconnecting your CD Drive(s). OR- get an enclosure for it, be sure it's jumpered for master, and hook it up thru a USB port. In either case, you probably won't be able to run any programs from it; when you try, the program will be looking at drive C: for it's files, and they're obviously not on C: (they're on D: now, or E: or F:...). But you will be able to move any data like songs, pics, movies, etc, to the new hard drive w/o any problems. You don't really need a program to do this, as you can do it all via drag-n-drop or copy-n-paste....

Or you could boot 98 as a virtual machine, but google would be the best person to assist with that, there are free ones through. I know microsoft even released a free one. Good luck.
