The difficulty I'm having now with Call Wave (internet answering machine) I never had before since I started to use Call Wave more than ten years ago, and with 3 different operating systems. I'm now using XP pro. The problem is that Call Wave is automatically set to "log on" when the system boots, but now refuses to log on at all. If it's not logged on it will not perform of course.

Previously it was sometimes slow logging on but I usually was able to address that by changing some services or starting programs in msconfig. Don't know if it's relevant but I reinstalled XP on a brand new HD with all my data and applications, including Call Wave which now refuses to log on. The Call Wave icon in the system tray just keeps flashing alternating green arrows and the message is first "logging on" and then "still trying to log on". I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Call Wave which I can do as long as I don't close my account, but that did not help. So far Call Wave customer care has not been at all helpful. I don't have a clue if this problem is driver or hardware related, but it's not my Comodo internet security firewall or anti virus because I turned it off and tried to boot without Comodo. There has to be some update or adjustment that will solve this problem. Any ideas or suggestions? :)

A funny thing happened to (my computer) me on the way to this Major Geeks forum. While waiting for an answer and maneuvering through the system and data of the drive I refer to in my post of Feb 26 here, the problem fixed itself. I don't know why but Call Wave now logs on, albeit very slowly. It takes Call Wave a full 5-10 minutes to "log on" after everything else has booted. Don't know if this is a clue but whatever the system is doing causes it to "check" the floppy drive (marked by a clattering sound) which then obviously enables Call Wave to log on, meaning it will operate as the internet answering machine I've been paying for for over 10 years. So now it's a question of why....and can I cause Call Wave to log on faster. Because until it does, my browser can't find anything which obviously means there's no connection (or the system is too busy trying to log Call Wave on to finally connect after the boot. Weird, and I'd like some answers if they're out there.

I realize you stated that CallWave customer support has done nothing for you, but I think this is a problem for them, and them alone. You can try contacting Comodo, but if you're using their free software, you may not get much (if any) help from them. If CallWave has a telephone number, I'd get on it, or try to find a replacement program that suits your needs....

    Good luck! ;)

Thanks dlb. But they don't have a number that works that I know of. Even their snail mail is a PO box. Anyway, since Call Wave is now logging on, albeit slowly as I said, the only issue left is how to make it log on faster. I don't see how they can make it do that...it's probably a question of start and service settings in msconfig. I suspect that Call Wave administration had blocked the program from logging on before because they suspected someone was fraudulently trying to use the software (I had uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times). I emailed them at the same time I posted here about the issue, telling tell if they didn't fix the log on block I would contact the attorneys general and BBB of both our states, and within two days Call Wave logged on again, and still logs on now as I post this. Coincidence?
Also, It seems Call wave was bought (or merged) with some other telecom operation judging by the page you get whenever you want to download their
exe. And, I wish there was another program even similar to Call Wave, but there's nothing I know of that does what they do that except maybe fancy cell phones or tablets and I'm not interested in those. I'm a staunch desktop guy, too old to change. ;) Thanks again
