I use IObit's SmartDefrag, which has the nice feature that it let's you choose to shutdown windows after the program finishes. That way I can leave it defrag as I go to bed.

Is there a general utility that can be used to schedule post-task shutdowns/standbys for Windows XP programs in general?

For example, a-squared deep scans take a long time, so I'd like to set my computer to enter standby/hibernation after the scan is finished, so that when I wake up I can wake the computer up too and remove any malware that the scan had found? (I don't trust windows xp auto-standby/hibernation modes because sometimes they go on even though a program is running...)

All this defragging really isn't necessary. And yes you can alter the settings for standby/hibernation but right now I can't remember where. I'll look it up and get back later. Or maybe someone else can find it for us? I'm out of time for now. :-D
