program verifier??

does anyone know of site that will let me input a prog name and tell me if its a ligitamate windows program or one more commonly used by hackers or other installed programs?

 

While you are waiting for a more informative reply, why don't you google it. If it is a nasty, someone will probably have posted info on it. What is the program name? Or is this a general type of inquiry about any program name. Bazza

Well, there are these two sites which focus on startup programs, which may be a starting point for you:

There are similar applications the do this, such as StartupInspector - see tools on this web site.

However, what you are essentially looking at are whether the software you find is bona-fide, i.e., not malware, spyware, etc. For this, following this instructions here to eliminate a number of problem applications: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25834
