    Hi Folks !
I am running an old CAD 16 bit CAd program on my tower PC that has an OP System of Windows XP Pro. Everything runs fine no worries. It has updates up to service pack 2. Now I have also purchased a Toshiba laptop model A30-514 that is running the manufacturers software with XP Home edition. My CAD initial setup files (on floppys) can be seen but will not load from a USB floppy add on drive. The error message is "SHADOW caused a general protection fault in module~TMP3130.EXE at 0002:0258" and will now close. The thing is, all the files can be seen on the floppy disk add on drive and the floppys work fine on my Tower PC running XP Pro ! If I try again I sometimes get a message 16BIT Windows subsystem. Cannot find file C:DOCUME~1\DAVE&G~1\Locals~TEMP\.
My name is Dave and my wifes' is Gill so I guess that has something to do with the laptop names assigned. The add ons for the CAD program will load and can be seen on the laptop but the initial main CAD software refuses to kick up !!! Help please - by the way tried load XP Pro onto the laptop but it gave up half way through and ended up having to load everything back on with Toshibas start up XP Home edition disks. Help, help , help all you boffs out there !!!

hmmm, have you tryed copying all the files from the disks into a folder on your PC THEN try installing it?

be sure to copy any hidden files or folders too

Hi - thanks vey much for your speedy reply - the CAD files are on a series of floppys you load one after the other. After each one loads it asks you to insert the next and so on until you comlete the series. If you try and copy all the files over from the Tower PC from the CAD directory on the Tower onto the laptop via a writeable cd or via a USB mass storage device and then load it into the laptop and ask it to run the setup file it still won't have it - this is what I tried first before I went out and bought an external floppy drive with a USB lead. Any more suggestions ? Help ?? What I can't understand is how come it will read the add on packs to the CAD software but not run the main software itself -surely everything is the same format. I thought it may be a problem on the floppys (like they were corrupted or something) at first but when you put them in the tower floppy drive they load and run perfectly ???
