Programs are closing slowly

    I have XP SP3 and suddenly my computer (3GB RAM) is closing programs slowly. I have run antivirus programs, spyware programs, defragged and ran a check disc and all seems fine. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Hi

    When did you notice this start happening? right after installing SP3?

    Did you install anything new ( hardware or software ) before this started? if so please name it.

    Does it happen same in safe mode?

    What security software do you have installed? please name all.


    Get Process Explorer and run it, then open one of the applications that closes slowely and close it, then view Process Explorers screen and look for any process taking most of the CPU time up.

    It does NOT happen in Safe Mode
    I think (not sure) that it started after I installed the Desktop Manager for my new Blackberry (I can't beleive that has affected it)
    For security I have:
    Symantex Anti-Virus - Corporate Edition
    Zone Alarm Pro
    I also use:
    Adaware
    Spybot
    AVG Anti-Spyware
    Registry Mechanic

    I will run Process Explorer later today and will post the results. Thanks

    Did Process Explorer and none seemed too large. However, interestingly, the programs are now running better. I wonder if something happened when I opened in safe mode and then back to regular. Hmmmmm. Whatevcer, it now seems fine. Thanks

    Hi

    Good to hear that its ok for now, but is your ZoneAlarm Pro the version with Antivirus built in as that could conflict with your Norton AV, thus slowing applications down when opening closing as they would be getting scanned, by both AVs.

    I have the ZA antivirus turned off. I wonder if simply starting in safe and then regular, got whatever competing program removed. In any event, all works perfectly so I am not complaining! Thanks for your very quick reply. David
