Hi, my parents have been having a lot of trouble with their computer for the past few months since their computer keeps deselecting the currently active window. Unfortunately, this is a huge inconvenience, especially while typing. Please help. I already tried the Malware removal instructions, but I'm still having problems and after posting in Malware, I was referred to the Software board. I'm typing this from my personal laptop.

    Hi

Have you tried using a different keyboard on the problematic computer? It could be a key "sticking". Also, please install CCleaner on the computer (if it's not on there already). Go to Tools, Startup, and in the lower right, click Save to text file and attach the text file for review.

    Hi,
I have tried using a different keyboard and it doesn't make a difference. I have already installed CCleaner

A sticking mouse button could also deselect windows.

Not to step in...in another thread I found this which was not resolved as a result of the user's choice to take the PC to a technician for restoration:

Looks very similar to your problem. If so, you could have a malware problem. If Adrynaline or someone else is unable to resolve your issue, perhaps the malware experts can help. Just refer them to the post above by embedding a link to it in your post there...

Hi AtlBo, thanks for your suggestion, however, I was actually redirected to this board from the Malware board since apparently, there was no malware found in my logs.

So, does it happen in Safe Mode?

    HyuugaSakura...

Yes, I see that you were referred. Perhaps I should read more carefully!

I sent a private message to one of the malware experts and asked him if he thought that this might be a malware issue, even with the logs clean. If he replies to me with a suggestion that a trip back to malware is in order I will let you know...or perhaps he will send you a PM if this is the best course for you...

Otherwise, you are in the capable hands of Adrynaline, etc. :)

In the logs you submitted in the Malware Removal forum, I noticed there were components of Symantec and McAfee running.

    Code:
Symantec Real Time Storage Protection x64 SRTSP Manual Running
Symantec Real Time Storage Protection (PEL) x64 SRTSPX System Running
    ccsvchst.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security Suite\Engine\20.2.0.19\ccSvcHst.exe" /s "N360" /m "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security Suite\Engine\20.2.0.19\diMaster.dll" /prefetch:1

    ccsvchst.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security Suite\Engine\20.2.0.19\ccSvcHst.exe" /c /a /s UserSession

McAfee Endpoint Encryption Agent McAfee Endpoint Encryption Agent Auto Running
In your startup list it also shows:

Yes Startup Common McAfee Security Scan Plus.lnk McAfee, Inc. C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee Security Scan\3.0.318\SSScheduler.exe

I don't think Norton's and McAfee nomally play well together, but it will take someone wiser than me to determine if this could be part of the problem.

    Sorry, I'll butt out now.

Yes, it happens in SafeMode as well, unfortunately.

That leaves it somewhat unlikely to be a virus or app then.

Unplug the mouse while in safe mode and see if focus changes.

    Same with testing the keyboard.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately, unplugging the mouse and keyboard don't do anything in regards to the computer. Might just have to get it fixed.

    I found this for XP
You can have a look in the registry at that key and see what the value is.
I just checked one of the XP computers in the house and it has the 200000 value.
