Programs no longer installing on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
    I'm running Windows 8.1 64bit and recently I have had problems with programs not installing. They download fine but when I click run nothing happens. Depending on what I am installing a pop up box may appear to ask if I want to allow changes, I click Yes but then that is it. I can do this many times but the program never installs.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I seem to have fixed this error, it seems a patch on Norton was the solution. Apologies I should have done this first.
    I do not seem able to delete this thread, perhaps an admin can do it for me.

    Maybe the thread will be closed because you found a solution but left for others with the same issue to refer to.
