Programs not recognising dvd burner

    Hi

    Just recently programs have stopped recognising my dvd burner.
    Itunes and windows media player can still play and burn cd's and WMP will play dvd's but that's about it.

    No dvd burner programs will recognise the drive.

    Speccy says it can't find an optical drive.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi, Uli again.

    I tried updating the driver which said it failed and now it won't even accept a cd.

    I running a Dell XPS 1645 Laptop with windows 7 pro 64bit.

    Okay,

    Just rebooted the computer and it's back to the state of the first post - i.e programs not recognising dvd burner.

    Speccy (now working) says its a HL-DT-ST DVD +- RW GA31N

    Thanks for any help.
