I have posted here before and have been asked to do this once again as I have done a through XP cleaning and search and am positive there is no malware running. I have XP SP3 and suddenly my programs all close slowly. Everything works fine but they close very slowly - only after my computer is on for awhile. If I re-start all works fine but about 30 minutes later it starts all over again. Does anyone have any other thoughts why this is happening? Thanks:confused

Here is my startup lisit. Not sure what else you need. I did not keep my logs from all of the malware programs.

Is this one better? As you can see, most are closed

At the time, Zone Alarm Pro. I am now using the XP firewall and it does not seem to make much of a difference

I installed the fix for ZA and am now connecting to the interent and, of course, my computer is working fine since I just re-started but I am sure will start acting up in a few minutes. I will remove the items in my startup that were outlined above. Thanks

I have taken the exact same steps and I have the same problem. Did you ever come up with a solutiin? Thanks, Gymnoboy

    I would turn off:

McciTrayApp - this is an excessive part of your verizon installation and not needed, it also has been reported to suddenly jump systems to 90%+ CPU usage and hold it there with no apparent reason.

ISUSPM - it downloads updates for installshiled, which isn't needed as anything you install with installshield will come with it's own version.

realsched - downloads updates to realplayer codecs and realplayer.

You could have a program malfunctioning with what's called a memory leak, where it claims system memory for itself and then never releases it properly. watch your memory usage in task manager over time and see if your pagefile keeps growing more and more as you open and close programs.

It may have been a dead thread two years ago, but it's still helpful today. Many thanks to Noone for the information. And thanks to MjorGeeks for keeping the old stuff available.

It is. I don't heavily enforce this however because as you mentioned it was still helpful. I had reversed this poilicy some time ago hopefully the people who still report posts for responding to an old thread will know now that it is ok.

Case in point, it was almost a year ago when I replied and since then policy has changed.
