Programs to completely wipe a HDD

I would like to completely wipe clean my one 160Gig hdd and use it again is what programs work for wiping a hd.

I do not have any CD's to put that on.

I am having issues with windows 7 Format.

Keep's giving me an error.Keep's Saying Error Windows was unable to complete the format.Is there any way around this.

P.S. do you mean you have a CD device, but no actual disk?

Be more specific. What's the first warning? Which method are you using to reinstall Windows 7? Bootable CD/DVD or USB?
