Programs Were Deleted and I Can't Get Them Back

    Hi,

I ran SUPERAntiSpyware last night and it deleted two of my programs. SUPERAntiSpyware does put them in a chest, it completely deletes them with any way to get them back.

I download the programs from the internet and I've been searching for them for a couple of hours but I can't find them. I've also tried a System Restore but they didn't come back.

Would someone tell me if a rollback would help and, if it would, how to do it?

No worries... Easy fix on this one:
Just reinstall the two programs that were deleted from either the original install CD or the .exe installation file! ;)

Two very important questions regarding your problem:
    (1) What were the exact names (and version numbers) of both of the "deleted" programs
    (2) Were these legitimate and legally obtained installations or where they pitrated/warez copies etc.

The reason that I ask is because SUPERAntiSpyware firsts detects - and then the user actually removes - the offending program. And SAS usually only detects them when they are "suspected" Spyware, Adware, Malware, Trojans, Dialers, Worms, KeyLoggers, HiJackers, Parasites, Rootkits and many other types of threats.

In any case, since you already tried System Restore and that did not work for you - then in my opinion, the easiest way to solve this problem would be to "get them back" by reinstalling the programs.

If they were actually "legally" obtained; you should be able to from re-install them (either their install CDS or from the .exe installation that the software company provided and the "legitimate" serial number is then added)

    Good Luck!

Superantispyware, as well as all legitimate antivirus programs does not delete anything. It places items in quarantine. You can manage the quarantine by opening the program and selecting "Manage Quarantine".

I'm sorry . . . I gave you the wrong name of the program. I ran a few of them last night. It was Norman_Malware_Cleaner. It has no chest/quarantine and no other place to store/retrieve files they have been removed.

In any event, about a few more hours later, I finally found the programs again . . . they work part and parcel with one another.

But I'd still like to know how a roll back works and if it would work under these conditions. So if you know how, please let me know.

    Thanks . . . Denise

Whoa... the programs magically appeared. Amazing! ;)

BYW, just curious here; what were the names of the two programs which disappeared and then reappeared?

If Windows system restore utility fails there really is no way to roll back "under these conditions," as you put it.

Whenever most antispyware apps (1) detect a suspect program and then (2) the user clicks 'remove' the (without quarantining it first) that program is usually gone for good. This is the main purpose and primary function of anti-spyware and virus removing apps... to get rid of programs entirely which the user had deemed unsuitable for quarantining first.

As far as I'm aware, recovering the 'now removed' program later by installing some kind of 'recovery application' AFTER the fact is not possible under these conditions. It's possible of course that there actually IS a recovery program available out there can do this; but if there is, I've certainly never heard of it.

    Good Luck!

Hi Compuable, if you think this is strange, read a new thread that I started in the Software Forum about an hour ago.
