After I installed and ran Uniblue DriverScanner, it downloaded 5 different updates for me. All are zipped except for one, and that's executable. They were all downloaded to a "download" sub-directory located in uniblues program directory. ie: C:\Documents and Settings\Me the User\Application Data\Uniblue\DriverScanner\Download\...

My question is how to install them properly or should I even trust Uniblue in making the correct choice?

When I say install them properly, I mean should I just unzip them where they are and run them from their current location? Should I uninstall the current ones before installing the new ones? What the proper method for uninstalling the old ones? Any precautions?

I've read so many instructions online, but I have learned to trust MG's for the correct instructions.

    Thanks

My apologies for leaving out my system information. I'm running windows XP Home Edition w/Service Pack 3. The drivers in question are for Display, Sound, Video and Game Controllers and System Devices.

First rule, "If ain't broke, don't fix it".
Second rule. Always try to get drivers from the makers of your particular equipment.

Driver updaters tend to throw everything in the mix and do not always give the best info.
Nvidia drivers are an example, the newest driver is not as good as the older version so as puppy said "if it ain't broke don't fix it.

    Hi
The golden rule is to never use driver finding software especially to down load from, you could render your machine useless or seriously infected, if you wish to find the correct drivers for your system then it is always recommended to go to either the machine makers website for that peticular model or look up the make of your motherboard you get the drivers like that, if you get realy stuck and resort to using driver finding software then only use it to find the drivers but DO NOT install them, note the drivers needed including the versions and search for them using reputable websites or the makers sites of those drivers like " Realtek, AMD, Conexant and ATI ", or better still ask for help here !!! and let one of us do the searching for you to find the exact/correct drivers for your type of system.

Well, I usually follow Puppywunder58's adage and at the moment, I'm not having any driver issues that I know of.

My only reason for updating my drivers was that I am on a sort of "housekeeping" bing that started after my last malware attack. I had a few programs that were out of date and I thought it might be a good time to update everything.

I noticed when I took a look at "about:support" in firefox, it stated:
So, I went to Nvidia first off and tried to find it there but they don't go back to my video card series far enough...they start at Geforce4 MX and go up, where mine is Geforce 2 MX! Maybe I need to change my card! :-o

The next thing I did was remembering what my "registered" version of Uniblue downloaded a while back so I went back to that and found the downloads. I wasn't sure where Uniblue got those and hence my query on MG's. My thinking was that I could possibly update all five drivers without going out looking for each since Uniblue had them all for me.

The big picture is this, I'm just in a "freak out" :eek mode from the malware, and I'm trying to approach everything very carefully and thoroughly.

Thank you all for your input on this...I think I'll leave my drivers alone and follow Puppywunder58's adage.

No worries I know how you feel ;) it can be quite daunting after recovering from a malware/virus infection and can make you very paraniod about what is and not safe on your machine.
If you ever need any assistance with driver issues at any time just post back here and one of us will help.

Safe Surfing ;) and try and stay away from the coughs and colds :-D
