Proxy Inclusions

    I'd like to connect through a proxy when I try to access domain a.com, b.com and c.com, but to connect without a proxy for all other Internet usage. This is basically because it seems very unsafe to do all my Internet browsing through a proxy, and yet I need to use a proxy to access a couple of websites.

    Internet Explorer's settings allow me to make exceptions to the proxy rules, but that won't work for me - unless I list Every domain on the Internet excluding those three!

    Any ideas?

    Hi 94dgrif,

    1. Add the proxy server ip or web address and associated port number into the Internet Options section and then activate the option.
    2. Create these 2 registry files below onto your desktop.

    A. Copy everything between the 2 lines below into notepad and then save the file as Disable proxy.reg

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
    "ProxyEnable"=dword:00000000

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    B. Copy everything between the 2 lines below into notepad and then save the file as Enable proxy.reg

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
    "ProxyEnable"=dword:00000001

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    3. Next, close IE and re-open it. Browse to your web sites through the proxy server that was defined in step #1 above.

    4. When you're done using the proxy server, close IE and execute the Disable proxy.reg that is on the desktop (this will remove the checkmark from the IE Internet Options proxy settings).

    5. Re-open IE to browse normally without proxy.

    6. When you want to use proxy again, close IE and then execute the Enable proxy.reg that is on the desktop (this will re-add the checkmark into the IE Internet Options proxy settings).

    7. Re-open IE to browse to you're web sites using proxy.

    Here's one proxy list that I found on the net...

    Thanks very much for your suggestion.

    I have been able to find a tool and after a little fiddling I have it working just the way I need it to. For those in the same situation, FoxyProxy will do the job.

    1. Select the proxy address and port
    2. Then a pattern which is their term for what domains/addresses you do or do not want the proxy to be used for.
    3. Finally make sure the option to base the use of proxies on the pattern matching.

    Now all your internet activity will be without a proxy, but any access to those particular web sites will connect via the proxy. Critically this means you can be browsing with and without the proxy on different tabs.
