proxy server?

i am trying to watch video content on websites from different countries and it wont let me because i dont live there. i know of proxy servers that will alow me to watch these videos. but ive not got a clue on how to do it. any ideas anyone. a step by step guide would be very helpfull.

You are aware of the performance hit you'll take, right? I'd recommend as a first step seeing if the same videos are offered on servers in your country.

Failing that, you can configure your web browser to use a proxy, but to offer instructions, we'll need to know which browser and version you are using.

 

thanks for your reply. im sorry i wasnt accurate. i know how to get into the proxy settings in ie8. im running windows 7 with ie8. i did a bit of searching and found ipaddresses and port numbers. but when i put them in, my internet stops working. what am i doing wrong?

also i live in the uk and im trying to watch discovery on demand. its in america and also another one is in canada. i would like to be able to watch them both.

 

Proxies are used for many shady reasons, and as a result, are frequently being taken down. You may need to continue searching for IPs and ports until you find one that still works. I'd suspect the one you have now is no longer valid.

Have you tried searching on the international discovery channel site? There is a menu option for users in the UK. I still recommend avoiding proxies, because even if you DO find one that works, you are still specifying that your internet traffic take an indirect route. This will most likely make streaming video PAINFULLY slow.
