Hi, I have just completed my first computer build, it all went quite well, till I got to turning it on, It all worked fine all the fans kicked in and seemed to be going good however the keyboard does not work.

Dont know why? Possibly shorting out somewhere, I have taken the mobo out and had a look and smell but cant see or smell any burnt bits which is good.

When I turn it on the lights on the keyboard come on for a milli second then nothing. Also the exhaust fan was working till I took the mobo out, when I put it back in it did not work so I had to move the lead to another 3 pin socket and it worked again, That is the main reason I think it is shorting.

Anyway it is a brand new XFX nvidia 680 sli.

I cant enter bios and I have to press esc to enter into the windows setup from disc. So I really cant do much lol.

I have tried turning off removing the keyboard, leaving for a minute and also jumped the CMOS, but with no joy.

    Have I got a faulty PS2 port?

Has anyone had any problems like this before.

    Your help is appreciated

I would try 2 things. Try the suspect keyboard on another computer. If it does not work, you have a bad keyboard. Also, I would remove the motherboard from the case and make sure there are no motherboard standoffs installed in the wrong holes! The standoffs should only be on the motherboard tray where a screw hole on the motherboard is. Make sense? :-D Just make sure there are not extra standoffs...

Yeah thats what I did when I removed it, there were extra ones, there was one missing but I added one in a hole that I did not bother putting in earlier, then the exhaust fan stopped working in that socket. So had to move the 3 pin connector other to the other side of the mobo, then it worked.

I have tried the keyboard on my other computer and it works fine.

Are you quite, quite sure you have plugged into the keyboard socket, not the mouse one?

    Is the mouse working?

Have you tried a USB keyboard?

Finally, yes there could be a faulty keyboard socket. It does happen.

I am quite sure it was the purple one.

I have tried a USB keyboard but they appear to be unactivated until I can get in the bios.

    Unsure what else to try.

Ok just to close this thread I suppose.

I took the board back today, got a new one and it is fine.

I presume the port was faulty.
