Have you ever seen anyone use liquid cooling for a PC on a PS2?
    Or is that even possible?

maybe to have the quietest ps2 around?

or maybe someone out there figured out how to overclock it...

ooohoohooh: or maybe it'd just be a fun project to see how small a water cooling system can get (which is why I originally did it for my computer in the first place)

Right! if someone were to OC it, i could see the reason for the cooling needs. Even w/o the OC mod done, im sure some jackbooty has done it just for kicks to say 'yea man, i got some kicka** cooling on my PS2!!"

bailmeout: Yea i got better stuff to do with my time. Like reading a proper flower planting technique ebook, or an online audio tutorial for yodeling! Thats my kinda stuff right there...
Like that commercial where that lady likes product manuals and shes sitting there with her daughter in bed, and shes like "..then mamma bear routes the mainframe directly to the switch.." --Now thats someone with too much time and too much insanity up here *points*

    haha, I dunno why.
Just thought it would look cool :)
Also was hoping that it would increase the life of the PS2.

PS2's don't overheat unless you overclock one, which is pretty impossible since I think there is no way to get to the BIOS to change the settings for that. Then again, the new slim versions don't have a cooling system, so they can overheat in about 9 hours. But then again, its so small, you wouldn't be able to fit a liquid cooling system in one. and even if you did, it would take away from the slim size of it.

Mmmm, sounds like a challenge! :p

I think someone should impliment this cooling method into something that actually needs it....Like the Xbox. I love intel, but for a mobile chip, that sucka gets hot inside there. Also, if you stack the dvd drive and hdd, you could probably fit a small cooling unit in it..if not it can always be stuck on the back <.< >.>

Hmmm... I need to find out the dimensions and see if its physically possible, XBox would be no problem, but not so sure about a PS2. But then, an XBox is nearly a PC anyway, it wouldn't be nearly as fun! :p

You'd definatley have to custom make the water block, for sure. But then anyone good with plumbing and an eye for accuracy (and maybe access to a CNC milling machine) can do that ;) LOL If you were particularly ambitious (and had some money to throw around...) you could put a peltier on it too :p but you'd have to make sure it was all insulated or you'd get condensation!

    thanks for the Link.
I also have an xbox, the reason why I like them so much is that you can practically do anything with them because the way they are built.

On a standard PS2, theoretically its possible. You couldn't do it without irreversabley modding it though. You'd definatley have to make the water block yourself, and definatley with a cnc machine (capilaries required 1mm wide, about 25 lengths of 40mm). I've not found out yet whether the heatsink retention clip is easy to remove/alter to keep the block in place. If not, you'd have to rip off the heatsink and thermal epoxy the block in place

On the Ver. 9-14 PS2s there have been problems with the LA chip overheating due to excessive power spikes to the laser coils. If you could keep the chip good and cool the when your power spikes and you blow your coils then the chip would be protected. If you could somehow cool both the coils and the LA chip then you would never have to worry about it. As of now, if you don't want them to burn out then you have to do the romeo mod. As I understand it the romeo mod does effectivly stop the problem but makes the laser reject scratched disks. So if you could keep them cool enough without reducing the power input then it could do what it was made to do and that is to focus on disks that have a little damage on them.
