PS3 and HDCP LCD monitor?

I have an LG L1933 TR SF. This LCD monitor is HDCP compliant but apparently will not display PS3 output. The only thing I can guess is that it doesn't support any HD resolutions despite being HDCP compliant (its native resolution is 1280x1024).

I had originally purchased an HDMI to DVI cable with the expectation that this would allow my monitor to receive the PS3 signal through its DVI input. Now I am wondering whether there is anything at all I can do to make this PS3 work with my monitor without purchasing an incredibly expensive (and illegal?) HDCP stripping box.. or a new TV.

Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to play GTA IV on Tuesday -- heck, I preordered -- but I'm not buying an HDTV just for this purpose especially when I already have a beautiful high resolution display.

 

Ok, I have no experience with your LCD monitor (LG L1933TR-SF). BUT I like doing research..

It looks to me like you are definitely not the only one with that problem. I saw a review on Newegg.com that said:

Unless there is some 'MajorGeek' walking around that can help you, cursing at LG is your only option :mad (that I know of)

Your screen's aspect ratio is 4:3, playstation's aspect ratio is 16:9 and I saw somewhere that therefore it doesn't work (I disagree but yeh..)

That's my view.. someone might have a solution, I didn't find one on the internet.. maybe playing it through another device that does recognize it will make it work? DVD player maybe? although that does kill the 1080p so less game fun rolleyes
