I just bought a PS3 and a Samsung 860 (1080p) but I am having trouble getting the TV to recognize the PS3 through the HDMI, and I can't change the resolution on the PS3 unless the TV recognizes the system... any ideas???
I have tried both ways suggested by the PS... "recognize HDMI cable, do you want to change?" yes...ends up being a black screen and have to reset the system.
Going through settings on PS3 and TV... TV does not recognize the system on the HDMI port.

try hooking up the ps3 to an other tv and configuring it from there....

Also, go through the TV user guide/manual. If you have the PS3 set to ratios not supported by the TV, you'll end up with a black screen.

First thing you should try is hooking up the PS3 using a connector that is not HDMI... use the VGA cable or any other that you can find, just to make sure the two can work together. Then try the HDMI. Connect the two, start the TV, with nothing else running, and then power on the PS3. You should be able to configure the hook-up from your TV at this point.

I assume you have quadruple checked that your TV can handle true 1080p?

    Thanks for the replies.
    I figured out the problem.
I ended up packing up the PS and taking it to the store where I bought the TV. I had one of the store tech's hook it up to the display model of the TV that I have... he had it working in about 10 seconds:cry. (WTF???)
So I go back home and hook it up again (the PS set itself to 1080p when it was hooked up in the store... the tech says "... don't even hook up the RCA's, just go through the HDMI now.") and I still get the black screen/no game. (again... WTF???)
So I have 3 HDMI ports on the back of the set........... I try all of them. NOTHING!!!
The tech in the store hooked it up through the port on the side of the set, so I try that... and guess what??? I got game!!!! (WTF????)
    I still don't get it.
Moral of the story is: WTF? Why can I only port my game through the aux port on the side panel of a $3000 TV?
