I just bought PS3 game console and it doesn't play the ps2 or regular ps games. Does anyone know how to set it or whatever it is that it will play the ps2 games? Thanks!

If I were you I'd take that one back, and go to a gamestop or somewhere similar. Buy a used 20 gig PS3 (Costed me 250). Go to your local computer store and see if they have hard drives that will fit it. That should be just about any 2.5-inch SATA notebook harddisk. I got a 200 gig ($100). Works like a charm. I put YDL on it and I am able to use my PS3 just the way I want to. And yes, you will be able to play PS1 and PS2 games. You will give up the PS3 wifi, but ethernet cable work just the same. Hope I helped.

why does the size of the PS3 make a difference? Isn't it only the BIOS that changes whether or not it will play it? If so, can't you just flash the new bios to an older system?

No, you cannot flash the firmware that way. The backwards compatibility comes from additional hardware, that's why the 40GB ones had their price drop. Once you have a backwards compatible one, you need firmware updates to optimize the compatibility too.
