PS3 Poor Connections On Wireless

Hey there, recently I have just got SKY unlimited broadband installed at my new accommodation for my second year at University. There are 5 of us living here, 2 of which play online, but currently it's just me trying to play online.

I have only been trying to play FIFA lately but whenever I try to connect to someone it is usually always a red bar connection (with orange being in the middle and green being the best). I'm wondering how I can get a better connection so I can have some decent online play. Is there something I have to do with the PS3? Or the router? I would connect it through the enthernet cable but there's not really anyway to do this.

I'm not really sure what other information I can give to help, so if there's anything I can provide then please let me know.

p.s. Do you think it could be just the distance of how far away the people I am trying to connect to could be? Or that EA are slowly removing the servers or something in line for the new FIFA coming out on Friday?

I just connected to someone and it was fine that time, so it's very hit and miss.

 

It will help if you forward the PS3 ports on your router, there is a walkthrough on the PS3 official forums (I tried to look but my laptop wont load the pages properly)
I know it's there because I've used it.
The wireless connection doesn't help I'm sure but forwarding the ports in your router will help.

 

What kind of encryption do you have on your wifi connection? The PS3 is very horrible at any form of encryption, so bad in fact that I ended up placing mine in the DMZ rather than continue to fight it. It made a big difference.
